Underwater image projection display system, lighting control system and device and method of operating same

Disclosed is an underwater image projection system submerged in a body of water (7) and projecting an image (1000) within said body of water (7). The system includes at least one enclosure (10), a lens assembly (90), at least one submerged projection element with an at least one projected light source (30) projecting an image (1000) within said body of water (7) from the projection element; at least one light source steering or modulating device (150); a system controller (200) coupled to and controlling the at least one projected light source and the at least one projected light source steering and a user input (50). A user inputs image data to the controller (200) through the user input device (50) and the controller (200) interprets the image data into a set of image control variables and executes control of the at least one projected light source (30) and at least one light source steering device (150) in coordination with each other. The controller projects the image (1000) through the projection element with the projected light source (30) by controlling the at least one projected light source steering or modulating device (150) to project from underwater a static or animated image on an underwater surface (1010) of the body of water (7).
