The invention relates to a simple and rapid analytical method for determining the amount of an insecticide - chlorpyrifos - in sediment samples, by ultrasonic extraction followed by headspace solid-phase micro extraction and gas chromatography using electron capture detection. According to the invention, the method is based on the chlorpyrifos determination in sediment samples by ultrasonic pre-extraction for 15...30 min, at a frequency of 35 kHz and a power of 320 W, followed by the headspace solid-phase micro extraction at a temperature of 40...90°C, at a stirring rate ranging between 700...1000 rpm for 10...90 min and finally by capillary gas chromatography coupled with electron capture detection.
