ABSTRACT An indigenous cone plate device for applying laminar shear to cultured mammalian cells (e.g., endothelial cells). The indigenous cone plate device includes a cone member connected to a removable top plate, at least one column, a vertically movable stage, a screw with an adjustable dial member and a base. The cone member made of a bio-compatible material (e.g., surgical grade steel) provides required shear with respect to the endothelial cell in vitro. The radius and angle of the cone is fixed in order to provide compatible shear to the endothelial cell in vitro by avoiding effects of external factors. The vertically movable stage configured at the frame member of the device holds the tissue culture dish. The adjustable dial member with a screw is used to adjust the height of the stage. A scale engraved on one of the columns is used to measure the position of the cone in the plate. The control unit of the cone plate device controls the shear stress of the cone in order thereby effectively apply laminar shear to cultured mammalian cells.
|
