The adapter comprises a clip with a groove, and a rack that engages with the groove. The clip attaches securely to an edge of a fabric, for example, a panel on a baseball cap. The rack includes an angle adjuster, on which a brow guard, welding helmet, or other protective gear can be mounted.

1. An adapter system, comprising:
(A) a left clip to attach to a left edge of a baseball cap, the left clip comprising:
(A1) a left inner panel comprising left inner teeth, the left inner teeth to engage a left inside of the baseball cap; and(A2) a left outer panel comprising:
(A2a) left outer teeth, the left outer teeth to engage a left outside of the baseball cap, the left inner teeth and the left outer teeth to securely hold the left edge;(A2b) a left groove located substantially parallel to the left edge; and(A2c) an unthreaded left bore; (B) a left cover comprising a left cover opening; (C) a left rack located between the left clip and the left cover, the left rack being mated with the left groove to permit the left rack to slide within the left groove, the left rack comprising left rack teeth; (D) a left dial located between the left clip and the left cover, the left dial comprising:
(D1) a left axle mated with the unthreaded left bore to permit the left dial to rotate with reference to the left outer panel;(D2) a left pinion to engage with the left rack teeth to form a left rack-and-pinion mechanism; and (E) a left slide lock located on the left cover, the left slide lock having a locked position, the left slide lock to prohibit disengagement of the left rack from the left groove when the slide lock is in the locked position.
