The present invention relates to an electric power steering apparatus and a controlling method thereof. The controlling method includes: a mode selection step selecting one among a plurality of travel modes which are set to enable steering feel of a steering wheel to be different from each other; an information obtaining step obtaining information related to a travel state of a vehicle from a plurality of sensors during traveling of the selected travel mode; and a mode switch step switching the selected travel mode into another travel mode when a situation is determined as the predetermined specific situation in accordance with the travel state of the vehicle collected from the sensors. Therefore, the present invention provides the optimized steering feel in accordance with traveling conditions to enable the vehicle to stably travel, and enables a driver to easily travel. |
