An electric winch device provided with an electric motor (14), a winch drum (12), a brake (24), an operation lever (26), an ammeter (34), and a controller (30). The controller is equipped with: a first torque deriving unit (46) that derives a value for a first torque caused by an object load and acting on the winch drum; a second torque deriving unit (48) that derives a value for a second torque, which is generated in the winch drum by the electric motor drive torque in the object-hoisting rotation direction, on the basis of a current value measured by the ammeter; and a brake control unit (50) that determines the timing at which to release a winch drum brake subsequent to the operation of an operation lever to the hoisting side or the lowering side on the basis of the difference between the value for the second torque derived by the second torque deriving unit and the value of the first torque derived by the first torque deriving unit, and, at the determined timing, transmits a control signal that instructs the release of the winch drum brake to the brake to release the winch drum brake.
