PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for detecting an output phase deficiency in an inverter, which precisely detects an inverter output phase deficiency with a current detection system utilizing a leg-shunt resistor.SOLUTION: The method includes: deciding whether a sector allows current detection on the basis of switching operation status of a switching element in an inverter unit; when the sector disallows the current detection, maintaining a phase deficiency variable; and, when the sector allows the current detection, adding a count to the phase deficiency variable to accumulate if the output current is within an output phase deficiency band, and determining as output phase deficiency if the phase deficiency variable is at or above an output phase deficiency detection level. |
