PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which is suitable for addressing a bi-stable electro-optical display device.SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method of addressing a bi-stable electro-optical display device having at least one pixel, the method which including the following processes: a process of applying an addressing pulse to drive the pixel in a first optical state; and a process of putting the pixel in a second optical state which is different from the first optical state by not driving the pixel in a certain time. This method is characterized such that a refresh pulse for substantially returning the pixel to the first optical state is applied to the pixel, and that the refresh pulse is shorter than the addressing pulse.
