ASSAY OF INFLUENZA VIRUS HEMAGGLUTININ

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide assay of an influenza virus hemagglutinin.SOLUTION: Influenza virus is analyzed using a combination of ultrafiltration and HPLC. This combination can quantify hemagglutinin (HA) with good correlation to the results of single radial immunodiffusion (SRID) and can be carried out without the delay of waiting for immunochemical SRID reagents. The invention provides a method for purifying influenza virus HA in a sample. This method comprises the steps of: (i) carrying out ultrafiltration of a sample to provide a filtrate; and (ii) carrying out RP-HPLC of the filtrate to separate any HA in the filtrate from any other components in the filtrate.
