Disclosed are a light emitting device having multiple non-polar light emitting cells, and a method of fabricating the same. The method comprises the step of preparing a first substrate of sapphire or silicon carbide, in which the upper surface has surface r, surface a, or surface m. The first substrate includes a stripped growth preventing pattern on the upper surface, and has a recess area having the side wall which is surface c between the growth preventing pattern. Nitride semiconductor layers grow on the substrate having the recess area, and light emitting cells separated from each other are formed by patterning the nitride semiconductor layers. Accordingly, provided is a light emitting device having non-polar light emitting cells of excellent crystal quality. |
