The present invention relates to a cathode active material for a lithium secondary battery and a manufacturing method thereof, wherein the cathode active material comprises: metal oxide particles containing lithium; a first surface treated layer formed on the surface of the lithium containing metal oxide particles and including one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of fluorine-doped metal oxides and fluorine-doped metal hydroxides; and a second surface treated layer formed on the surface of the first surface treated layer and including fluoropolymer.
