This frequency control method, in which a power system is controlled such that the frequency thereof approaches a reference frequency, includes the following steps: a frequency detection step (S301); a state-of-charge acquisition step (S311) in which the state of charge of a rechargeable battery is acquired; a determination step (S313) in which a base point for either power with which to charge said rechargeable battery or power to discharge from said rechargeable battery is determined; a command-value determination step (S321) in which a command value obtained by changing the base point by an amount corresponding to a frequency deviation is determined, said frequency deviation being the difference between the reference frequency and the detected frequency; and a charging/discharging control step (S322) in which the rechargeable battery is charged or discharged on the basis of the aforementioned command value. In the determination step, a third rate of change, namely the mean rate of change of the state of charge with respect to the base point when the state of charge is within a third range, is lower than either a first rate of change, namely the mean rate of change when the state of charge is within a first range, or a second rate of change, namely the mean rate of change when the state of charge is within a second range. |
