The present invention relates to a cell assessment method characterized in being provided with: an acquisition step for acquiring an optical path length image of a small cell clump; an extraction step for extracting the cell nucleus region in the acquired optical path length image; a comparison step for comparing the optical path length inside and the optical path length outside the extracted cell nucleus region; and an assessment step for assessing whether or not the cells are stem cells on the basis of the comparison results.
