The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for controlling an application based on social update in a social network. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the method for processing information comprises the steps of obtaining at least one of the alarm information and at least one contact state information on a social network service (SNS) application; extracting update information related to the at least one content by parsing at least one the obtained state information and the alarm information; and controlling a predetermined application related to extracted update information.
