PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection optical device and image projection device that enable suppression of occurrence of trapezoidal distortion or vignetting of an image to be projected on a projection surface.SOLUTION: A projection optical device such as a projection optical part is configured to project an image generated by an image generation part such as an optical modulation part toward a projection surface via a projection lens group such as a first optical system and a folding mirror 41, and in a projection lens holding member such as a lens barrel part 31a holding the projection lens group, a positioning part 35a to which the folding mirror 41 is positioned is configured to be provided. Thus, the number of members lying between a projection optical component 31 and the folding mirror 41 can be reduced, and accumulation of fabrication errors of the members or accumulation of assembly errors among each of the members can be reduced. Therefore, a position deviation of the folding mirror 41 with respect to the projection optical component 31 can be suppressed. Accordingly, occurrence of trapezoidal distortion or vignetting of an image to be projected on the projection surface can be prevented. |
