The invention provides a security monitoring system and method using ultra wideband through-the-wall radar and image sensor. The invention comprises CCTV (Closed Circuit TV) camera; a user terminal; an ultra-wideband signal generator that generates impulse signals; an array antenna that sends the said impulse signals and receives reception signals; a database (DB) that stores background data when there is no target within the scope of monitoring area; a mixer that calculates difference signals between the stored background data and the signals received at the array antenna; and a controller that detects the target using the difference signals calculated, generates and sends target-detecting signals to the user terminal, controls the ultra-wideband signal generator to determine the location of the target detected through beam forming and sends the location determined to the user terminal. The controller also controls the CCTV camera to record the target at the determined location and sends the image recorded to the user terminal. An advantage of the invention is that an intruder cannot know whether monitoring is being performed because the invention is installed behind or inside the wall. Above all, the invention can detect intrusion unware to the intruder even though the intruder evades CCTV camera and make up for the weakness of the conventional CCTV camera by automatically tracking and recording the intruder through connection with the CCTV camera. |
