An electric socket member comprises a U-shaped contact spring 10 embraced by a U- shaped strengthening spring 20, the legs of which are slidably mounted in grooves 14 formed in the ends of the limbs of the spring 10. In the embodiment shown (Fig. 4) the contact spring limbs are divided longitudinally to provide two pairs of contact members 12 and 13 coated as at 18 with precious metal. The contact spring may comprise two metal strips lying face-to-face and spot welded together to form a lead-in portion 11 or may be made from a single metal strip bent over on itself or from metal strip members in the shape of a T (Fig. 13, not shown) an E (Fig. 27, not shown) or an h (Fig. 33, not shown). The spring 20 may be laminated (Fig. 14, not shown). The socket members may be used to make contact with the conductors 31 of a printed circuit board 30 as shown in Fig. 9. Fig. 10 shows a multi-contact socket for printed circuit boards comprising an insulating housing 40 having a plurality of side-by-side compartments in which are mounted socket members which are held in position by bending over the lead-in portions 11, as shown or by flanges provided in the lead-in portions. |
