<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately adjust a timing relationship between a light projection process and a light reception process in accordance with the transmission time of a signal on a communication line between a projector and an optical receiver. <P>SOLUTION: In a state where a multiple optical axis photoelectric sensor does not execute a detection process, the optical receiver transmits a command P and the projector receiving it transmits a response command Q. The optical receiver measures a time T required from a time point a of completion of transmission of the command P to a time point e of recognition of the command Q, and calculates a signal transmission time Tx between the projector and the optical receiver by an operation using the measured time T.
