<p>An internal combustion engine according to the present invention includes an exhaust treatment apparatus provided in an exhaust passage and a burner apparatus provided upstream of the exhaust treatment apparatus. The burner apparatus includes at least a fuel addition valve that adds fuel into the exhaust passage and heating means for heating the fuel added through the fuel addition valve. The burner apparatus is controlled such that fuel is added through the fuel addition valve in synchronism with a variation in an exhaust velocity at a predetermined position at or near the burner apparatus. Stability in ignition and combustion of the added fuel can be improved.</p> |
