A child detection method using a 3D depth camera of the present invention comprises the steps of: obtaining information of specific body length divided by each body part of an adult and a child, and storing the information; calculating the ratio of each length for the specific body information based on the obtained information of specific body length; building the database of a bin classifier table by classifying sample numbers of the adult and the child, respectively, by classifier, with respect to the calculated ratio for each length; normalizing a captured image of a targeted object by using the 3D depth camera, and obtaining information of specific body length divided by each body part of the targeted object; calculating the ratio of each length for the specific body information of the targeted object based on the obtained information of specific body length; calculating probability of whether the targeted object is a child or not by each length ratio for the specific body information by comparing each length ratio for the calculated specific body information of the targeted object with each length ratio for the specific body information from the built database of the bin classifier table; and determining whether the targeted object is the child or not by combining the calculated probability.
