A fire-resistant pipe coupling 100 comprises an outer tubular casing 102 and an inner tubular casing 104 fitted entirely inside the outer casing 102. The coupling 100 further comprises a tubular sealing gasket 106 located within the inner tubular casing 104. The coupling 100 has means for tensioning the casing around the gasket 106, optionally located on the outer casing 102. At least one layer of fire-resistant material 124 is disposed between the inner 104 and outer 102 casings, and at least one layer of thermally-insulating material 128 is disposed between the tubular sealing gasket 106 and the inner casing 104. The outer casing 102 and tubular sealing gasket 106 are thermally insulated from one another. The thermally insulating material 128 can be made from mica, and the fire resistant material 124 can be formed from inorganic materials including silica, which can be in woven fibre form. The inner 104 and outer 102 casings can have a pair of annular flanges projecting radially inward from their axial edges. This arrangement protects the gasket 106 from melting or deterioration due to lengthy exposure to high temperatures. |
