A condenser and method for condensing a vapour, comprising: a condensing vessel12 having an input 14 for introduction of vapor and an outlet 16 for the removal of liquid; a rotating portion 18 that is arranged in use to create a rotating body of liquid within the vessel. The rotating portion may be an impeller, this can be located within a rotating inner chamber which is located in an outer non-rotating chamber (figure 2). There can be a second impeller rotating contrary to the first impeller. The rotating body of water can create a vortex (line B) with a central void, where the vapour is introduced into the void and swirls around so that it becomes entrained in the rotating body of water. The condenser can include a vacuum pump for removal of non-condensable gases from the vessel. The condenser can be used in with a steam turbine in a power generation system. |
