The invention relates to a container (1) for a viscous liquid. The container comprises a container body (2) with a peripheral wall (4) which defines an internal volume of the container body. The container further comprises a cover body (8) which is connected to the container body and which at least partially closes the internal volume of the container body. The cover body comprises a dispensing opening (11) formed therein which is in liquid flow connection with the internal volume of the container body in order to carry liquid out of the internal volume of the container body. The cover body comprises support means (15) on which the container can be supported. The container comprises a closing element (13) which is connected to the cover body and which is movable between an opened position and a closed position. In the opened position the closing element leaves the dispensing opening clear, and in the closed position the closing element closes the dispensing opening.
