The device has a dial shaped display surface including a rear face and a front face that is directed towards a user i.e. driver, of a motor vehicle. A needle (20) is provided on the rear face of the display surface. The needle has a case element that is provided with an upper cover and a lower cover, where the case element partially covers a light guide (22) having a round shaped transversal section. The needle has a counterweight that is attached to the upper cover of the case element. The light guide is assembled in openings of the upper and lower covers of the case element. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a needle in a display device.
