The present invention relates to a composition which includes a wormwood (Artemisia capillaris) extract containing scoparone as an active ingredient and is used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. More specifically, the present invention relates to the composition which includes the scoparone or the wormwood extract containing the scoparone as an active ingredient and a dietary supplement product used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. According to the present invention, the scoparone or the wormwood extract containing the scoparone can increase the osteoblast activity and inhibit the osteoclast activity and bone resorption activity. Accordingly, the present invention can be used as a pharmaceutical composition, dietary supplement product, or beverage to improve the health of the bones and prevent bone loss as well as for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
