The present invention relates to a method and a device used in a media server to update the information regarding available media content. The present invention is used in a DLNA-based home network system to notify a home multicast group of service restriction when the service restriction occurs on a digital media server (DMS) and enables digital media players (DMPs) in the home multicast group to receive the information regarding unavailable service content from the DMS to notify the user. According to the present invention, a system, which is used to update the information regarding available media content, includes the DMS and DMPs. The DMS transmits service failure information to the DMPs when a service failure occurs and transmits a content list to one of the DMPs upon receiving an unable content list from the DMP. The DMPs request the content list upon receiving the service failure information from the DMS and update the relevant information by applying the unable content list received from the DMS. |
