PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle information system and connection procedure capable of facilitating connection between an on-vehicle device and a portable terminal.SOLUTION: An on-vehicle device 2 includes: first on-vehicle radio communication means 26 for transmitting a predetermined control signal to a portable terminal by radio wave via a first communication channel; and second on-vehicle radio communication means 25 for receiving an image and sound to be transmitted from the portable terminal 1 by radio wave via a second communication channel. The portable terminal 1 includes: first portable radio communication means 16 for receiving the control signal from the on-vehicle device 2 by radio wave via the first communication channel; and second portable radio communication means 15 for transmitting the image and sound to the on-vehicle device 2 by radio wave via the second communication channel. The first on-vehicle radio communication means 26 transmits a connection request for establishing the second communication channel to the first portable radio communication means via the first communication channel. When the first portable radio communication means receives the connection request, the second portable radio communication means establishes the second communication channel with the second on-vehicle radio communication means 25.
