Two hoisting drums a, e on an overhead crane each carry three or more ropes h, g, f and b, c, d splayed apart to restrain a lifting beam r from swinging. As shown in Fig. 3, the ropes h, f are splayed apart by pulleys q, o and are connected to the beam r at w. Rope g is turned round pulley p and connected to the beam at x. The other end of the beam is similarly supported from the drum a. Electromagnets v can be energized by a cable i which passes into the drum e and through a hollow shaft to a slipring s. A hook t may be fitted to the lifting beam.
