The connection between an underground cavity 4 for storing liquefied gas at substantially atmospheric pressure and the bottom 3 of a shaft 1 leading to ground level is sealed and reinforced by an annular member 5, e.g. of concrete set in a recess 4 in the surrounding frozen earth and secured by tie-rods 8, 9. The upper inner marginal edge of member 5 serves to support a floor 13 through which pass supply and delivery duets and on which stand ancillary equipment (not shown). The walls 6, 7 of recess 4 are faced with cement and a layer of synthetic resin 14 and the member 5 may be constructed of glass fibre, polyester or cast metal. |
