PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent used for treating atopic dermatitis, and to provide an agent for enhancing the concentration of kynurenic acid which is the antagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) receptor in an intestine.SOLUTION: The invention provides an agent for treating atopic dermatitis containing kynurenic acid and a precursor thereof as an active ingredient; an agent for enhancing the concentration of kynurenic acid in an intestine, containing a microorganism enhancing the concentration of kynurenic acid in an intestine; and pharmaceutical compositions and foods containing the agent. The microorganism is preferred to be Bifidobacterium, particularly Bifidobacterium animalis lactis LKM512 (FERMP-21998). The agent is necessary to be delivered alive into an intestine. The microorganisms are preferred to be protected from an intragastric environment. And the agent is preferred to be enteric-coated. The agent can improve pruritus caused by adult atopic dermatitis.
