<p>Abstract A method of automatically designing the lighting for a room, the method comprising the steps of: calculating 102 the volume of the room based on room dimensions supplied by a user; determining 106 a recommended lux for 10 the room based on a room type supplied by the user; and calculating 108 the recommended lumens for the room. The method also comprises determining 110 the number of lights required based on the calculated lumens; and, drawing the location of the light or lights in the room based on the room dimensions wherein, in use, an ideal lighting design for the room can be 15 provided for the user.
