Systems, methods, and apparatuses are provided for enabling a merchant payment computer to obtain one or more encryption keys, and use the encryption keys to encrypt transaction data. The merchant payment computer may authenticate to a merchant management computer to obtain a signed digital certificate attesting the identity of the merchant payment computer. The merchant payment computer can provide the certificate and a device identifier to a key management computer to obtain an encryption key. The merchant payment computer can then use the encryption key to encrypt transaction data for a transaction.

a processor; and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising code executable by the processor for implementing a method comprising:
receiving a signed digital certificate from a merchant management computer;sending the digital certificate and a device identifier to a key management computer;receiving, from the key management computer, an initial encryption key;receiving transaction data for a transaction;encrypting the transaction data using the initial encryption key;sending the encrypted transaction data to a payment processing network; andreceiving an indication of whether the transaction was approved or declined.
