A fluid control valve comprises an inlet and an outlet and a displaceable valve member, a plurality of first passages or ports in a body member and leading from the inlet to one face of the valve member and at least one second port or passage leading from said valve member face to the outlet. Where there is one second port or passage the first ports or passages are dispersed therein and where there are a plurality of second ports or passages they are at least partly interspersed with the first ports or passages. In the first example, Fig. 1, a flow control valve comprises a body 1 having an inlet 2 and an outlet 3 leading respectively to and from chambers 13 and 14 of a core member 5 surrounded by a nylon sleeve member 4 the annular space 7 around which receives control fluid through a port 9. The outer wall of the core member 5 has seventy-two slots 15 leading alternately to the chambers 13, 14. The flow from the inlet 2 to the outlet 3 is determined by the spacing of the sleeve 4 from the core 5 resulting from the control pressure on the outside of the sleeve and inlet and outlet pressure acting on the inside of the sleeve 4. In a modification, Fig. 8, the core member is replaced by a block 60 of superimposed plates and the sleeve is replaced by upper and lower nylon plates 64, 65 subject on their outer faces to the control pressure and on their inner faces to inlet and outlet pressure via passages 62 and 63. Instead of the axially symmetrical block 60 a half-size block may be used with one nylon plate. In another example, Figs. 2 and 3, a stack of circular plates 16-19 held between end caps 20 and 21 have aligned holes 30 and 26 forming two inlet passages 34 (only one being shown) and centrally aligned holes 24 forming a central bore receiving a tube 38 around which is a nylon sleeve 37 with an annular groove 47 therebetween. The groove 47 is connected to the inside of the tube 38 by slots 48. The plates 16- 19 have aligned holes 28, 32 forming two passages leading to outlets 23 (only one being shown). The central bore receives control pressure via a radial passage 45 and this pressure acts on the inside of the sleeve 37. The inlet passages 34 are connected by curved grooves 49, 50 in the plates 17 to the outside surface of the sleeve 37 which surface is connected by similarly curved grooves in the plates 19 to the outlet passages. The grooves 49, 50 may be straight instead of curved and the plates 16-19 square instead of circular. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the plates 17 have diamond-shaped holes 53 interconnecting the inlet holes 26 and 30 and the plates 19 have diamond-shaped holes 54 interconnecting the outlet holes 28 and 32. A rigid ported tube surrounds the sleeve 37. The spacer plates 16 and 18 may be omitted and the plates 17, 19 provided with radially directed slots interconnecting their ports. In a modification longitudinal grooves extend radially from the central bore of the plates and are alternately connected to the inlet and outlet. In another example, Fig. 14, the nylon sleeve 37 is surrounded by six channels 73 which receive the inlet pressure and the spaces 75 between the channels are connected to the outlet. The channels and spaces could be formed by a longitudinally corrugated tube surrounding the sleeve or by radially directed webs. In another example, Fig. 19, the valve comprises a body 90 having an inlet 91 and an outlet 92 between which is located a horizontal plate 93 carrying vertical tubes 94 the upper ends of which are adjacent a nylon plate 95 subject on its upper side to a control pressure via a port 98 in a cap member 96. It is suggested that in use any of the above described valves can form the second stage of a two-stage electro-hydraulic unit the first stage of which is an electromagnetically operated hydraulic valve which controls the pressure of the control fluid.</p>
