<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable work machine capable of obtaining a desired cut depth. <P>SOLUTION: In the portable work machine, a protective cover 7 includes a cut depth adjusting device 17 including a rod 11, a roller 10 (first guide part) and a knob bolt 12 for fixation on an outer peripheral side. A circular arcuate recessed part 15 along a rotary blade 3 is formed on the outer peripheral side of the protective cover 7, and the rod 11 is fitted to the inner side of the recessed part 15. The rod 11 is formed in a circular arcuate shape similarly to the recessed part 15, is formed slightly narrower than the width of the recessed part 15, and is configured slidably in the circular arcuate shape inside the recessed part 15.
