A door 12 is mounted for opening about one of two vertical axes near opposite edges of the door, a pivot device 1, 10 which can be engaged, or disengaged by substantially normal movement of the door relative to the doorway frame 2 being provided at each corner of the door and a latch 16 operable by a door handle 14 being fitted at each side of the door, each latch serving to retain the door on the adjacent pivot axis when it is being opened by releasing the other latch. Each pivot device comprises a pin 1 adjustably mounted in the doorway frame and a slotted block 10 screwed into a housing 11 rigid with the door, disengagement of the pin from the block being prevented, after an initial turning of the door, by the housing 11 which covers the entrance to the slot. Each latch 16 has an arcuate surface 18 which engages behind a similar surface 19 on a fixed member 15 so that disengagement of the pin from the slot is prevented during the initial turning. The door may be withdrawn bodily from the doorway frame by releasing both latches. A leaf spring may be fixed to the housing 11 to bear on the block 10 and frictionally retain the latter in its position for engagement with the pin. In a modification the block 10 has a plain surface engaging in a plain bore in the housing and is retained therein by a radially directed set screw entering a circumferential groove in the block. |
