The present invention relates to a method for operating a memory system. The method includes: a step in which a memory controller is initialized; a step in which the memory controller reads the failure information of a non-volatile memory and a volatile memory from a failure information area of a hybrid memory device including the non-volatile memory and the volatile memory; a step in which the memory controller maps the logical address of target data onto the physical address of a safe area to store the data in the safe area separated from the failure information area of the hybrid memory device and a failure area based on the failure information; and a step in which the memory controller stores the data in the safe area according to the mapping operation. According to the memory system operating method, the memory controller can deliver the failure information onto the system level, and an operating system can use the failure information to load an application program in the safe area in the hybrid memory device.
