The present invention relates to a method for controlling output of HUD image and an apparatus thereof, which are provided to change the output distance of HUD image on the basis of the distance from an obstacle located in front of a vehicle, and to change the output brightness of HUD image according to the changed output distance. The method for controlling output of HUD image is provided by comprising the steps of: a control unit sensing an obstacle located within a standard distance in front of a vehicle through a sensor unit; if an obstacle is sensed, measuring the distance from the obstacle through a sensor unit; and changing the output distance of HUD image on the basis of the measured distance from the obstacle.
