A coating composition comprises (1) an air-blown oily polymer of a C4 to C6 conjugated diolefin, (2) a dialkyl acid phosphate and (3) an oil-modified alkyd resin, or depolymerized pyroxyline and/or an amino-aldehyde resin. The polymer may have an oxygen content up to 20% and may be derived from butadiene, isoprene, dimethyl butadiene, piperylene, methyl pentadiene or mixtures thereof with one other or with styrene, paramethyl styrene, dimethyl styrene, diethyl styrene, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, vinyl isobutyl ether, methyl vinyl ketone or isopropyl methyl ketone. Alkyd resins specified are the oil-modified products derived from phthalic or maleic acid and glycerol, e.g. a dehydrated castor oil alkyd resin. The aminoaldehyde resins disclosed are those derived from urea, thiourea, dicyandiamide, guanidine, melamine, melam, ammeline, thioammeline, bistriazine, bis-thioammeline diethyl ether, 2,6-diamino-1, 3-diazine, 5-methyl-2, 6-diamino-1, 3-diazine, 4-chloro-2, 6-diamino-1, 2-diazine or mixtures thereof, and acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde, butyraldehyde, formaldehyde, furfuraldehyde, and mixtures thereof. Optionally alcohols such as butyl alcohol may be present. The compositions may comprise solvents such as toluene, benzene, naphtha, butyl acetate and methyl ethyl ketone, and pigments such as titanium dioxide and talc. The compositions find application as white enamels, e.g. on steel panels, and may be cured by air-drying or low temperature baking.
