The present invention relates to an array substrate for a liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof. The present invention forms a sub-storage capacitor in the empty space on a data-line area in a structure which secures the empty space on the data-line area such as a double rate driving (DRD) structure reducing the number of the data-lines by half to reduce the area of a main storage capacitor and to increase the aperture ratio accordingly. The array substrate includes: gate electrodes, gate lines, common lines, and first connection lines formed on a substrate; a gate insulation layer formed on the substrate including the gate electrodes, gate lines, common lines, and first connection lines; an active layer which is formed on top of the gate electrodes having the gate insulation layer formed thereof; source electrodes and drain electrodes formed on the substrate including the active layer and data lines intersecting the gate lines to define pixels; a protection film formed on the substrate including the source electrodes, drain electrodes, and data lines; and common electrodes, pixel electrodes, and second connection lines formed on the substrate including the protection film. Two or more adjacent pixels share one data-line, or two adjacent data-lines are arranged in one pixel to be adjacent to each other. Accordingly, the first and second connection lines can be formed in the empty space of the data line area when the empty space of the data line area without the data lines is formed. |
