PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power conversion apparatus or the like capable of safely and quickly discharging electric charges accumulated in a smooth capacitor in the power conversion apparatus without being accompanied by complication and cost increase of a system.SOLUTION: An inverter control unit 4 is allowed to perform short-circuit failure detection of a power semiconductor element included in an inverter in accordance with a discharge command on the basis of current flowing into a boost converter 6, potential of a node between the inverter and a motor is fixed on predetermined potential except that there are short-circuit failures on both sides of a low-voltage side power semiconductor element 17 and a high-voltage side power semiconductor element 16 of a switching arm of the power semiconductor element, and then a boost converter control unit 3 is allowed to perform discharge operation of internal charge of a primary smooth capacitor 11 and a secondary smooth capacitor 12 by driving the boost converter 6. |
