摘要 <p>A solution of "oxine" is reclaimed from an aqueous mineral flotation pulp containing oxine as a collector reagent in a process consisting of three stages as follows: (1) the oxine reagent is separated from the mineral particles in the pulp by froth flotation in an alkaline medium or by acidification of the solution followed by filtration; (2) a stoichiometric excess of a substance supplying copper, nickel, cobalt, mercury or antimony ions is added to the filtrate from (1) to convert the oxine into a single heavy metal quinolinate which is then precipitated by raising the pH of the solution, if necessary; and (3) the precipitate is treated to remove the ions of the selected metal, leaving the oxine product. The metal ions may be removed by treating the precipitate with an alkaline metal sulphide in an alkaline suspension and filtering off the sulphide, or by dissolving the precipitate in dilute mineral acid and subjecting the solution to electrolysis or treatment with hydrogen sulphide. The "oxine" is defined as 8-quinolinol or one or more alkyl derivatives thereof. Specifications 798,768 and 826,827 are referred to.ALSO:A solution of "oxine" is reclaimed from an aqueous mineral flotation pulp, obtained in the separation, for example of niobium or uranium from their ores, in a process consisting of three stages as follows, and the resulting oxine is suitable for use as a flotation reagent in the processing of additional quantities of ore:- (a) the oxine reagent is separated from the mineral particles in the pulp by froth flotation in an alkaline medium or by acidification of the solution followed by filtration; (b) a stoichiometric excess of a substance supplying copper, nickel, cobalt, mercury or antimony ions is added to the filtrate from (a) to convert the oxinc into a heavy metal quinolinate which is then precipitated by raising the pH of the solution if necessary; and (c) the precipitate is treated to remove the ions of the selected metal either by treating the precipitate with an alkaline metal sulphide in an alkaline suspension and filtering off the sulphide or by dissolving the precipitate in dilute mineral acid and subjecting the solution to electrolysis or treatment with hydrogen sulphide.
