This application is concerned with coexistence interference mitigation between a frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) signal and another signal such as a direct sequence spread spectrum signal (DSSS). An apparatus provided with FHSS communication means provides a scanning operation to detect a property of the other signal, such as its frequency. The apparatus then determines which of the FHSS hopping frequencies, or channels, could potentially interfere with the other signal. In conventional FHSS interference mitigation systems those FHSS channels which are determined to potentially interfere are removed from the hopping sequence. However, in the present application the FHSS channels which are determined to interfere are used, but in a modified way when compared to the other channels. In a preferred embodiment the determined channels are assigned reduced bandwidth data, compared to the other channels, e.g. audio data instead of image data. The invention finds particular application in image capturing apparatus with dual communication modes, e.g. in a video camera equipped baby monitor or security system.
|
