<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycarbonate resin and a composition containing the same including a constitutional unit derived from a specific dihydroxy compound and having excellent heat resistance and transparency. <P>SOLUTION: A method for producing polycarbonate includes: a polycarbonate production process for producing polycarbonate by transesterification between a dihydroxy compound having a structure represented by structural formula (1) in the molecule and carbonic diester; and a reactor treatment process for bringing a reactor, wherein the transesterification is carried out, into contact with an aromatic hydroxy compound before performing the transesterification.
