The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling a washing machine, which lessens toil of a user by automatically selecting methods for washing, comprising: more than one sensor unit installed at the inside of a washing machine, which measures the natural frequency of the laundry inserted into the washing machine; a database unit storing the information related to a washing method of the laundry; a control unit which decides a type for the laundry by comparing the natural frequency value inputted to the sensor unit with an existing frequency value stored in the database unit, selects the washing method corresponding to the type of laundry, and outputs a driving signal to operate the selected washing method; a drive unit which receives the drive signal outputted from the control unit and operates the washing machine according to the drive signal. |
