Provided are a liquid crystal aligning agent capable of obtaining a liquid crystal alignment film having good liquid crystal orientation and orientation stability. A polymer component and a compound (D) represented by the following chemical formula (1) are contained in the liquid crystal alignment agent. In the chemical formula, A^1 is a group including a polymerized unsaturated bond, A^2 is a functional group capable of reacting with an epoxy group, R^1 is an organic group of (m+n), m is an integer from 2 to 18, and n is an integer from 1 to 18, wherein (m+n)<=20 is satisfied.
