The present invention relates to a wireless power transmission apparatus capable of varying resonant frequency and a method thereof, which are provided to control the resonant frequency of the wireless power transmission apparatus according to the resonant frequency of a power receiving device, to control the resonant frequency of the wireless power transmission apparatus according to the type of the power receiving device, and to check if the power receiving device is in a method of WPC or PMA and if, when it is in the method of PMA, it is in the method of type 1 or in the method of type 3. The wireless power transmission apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a resonant frequency varying unit which varies the resonant frequency of a power signal to be transmitted; a power signal transmission unit which generates the power signal according to the resonant frequency varied by the resonant frequency varying unit, and transmits the power signal to the power receiving device wirelessly; and a control unit which performs communications with the power receiving device through the power signal transmission unit, obtains an information signal of the power receiving device, controls the resonant frequency of the resonant frequency varying unit according to the obtained information signal, and controls the power signal transmission unit to generate the power signal according to the resonant frequency of the resonant frequency varying unit and to transmit to the power receiving device. |
