An amplifier for audio signals is disclosed having input ports and an output port. A control processor is configured to present a graphical user interface to a user via a touchscreen, to allow a user manually to select an input port and to control an output volume using a gestural movement. An attenuator (fig.11) has at least one relay for controlling output volume in response to control signals from the control processor. Temperature sensing devices 1308, 1309 provide high temperature data to a control processor 1307. Sensor 1308 may be bonded to the heat sink 1303 of a power transistor 1302. The control processor is configured to reduce the output volume if the temperature data indicates that the temperature of the apparatus has exceeded a predetermined level. The control processor may also (fig.15) switch on a cooling fan 1306 and, ultimately, shut down the power amplifier via a relay 1305. Temperature sensing may be provided for both the power amplifier and its power supply. |
