Azobisisobutyronitrile is added to 50/50 divinyl benzene/ethyl styrene mixture in toluene and the mixture is polymerized in the presence of aqueous 0,1/polyvinyl alcohol at 75 DEG C.; t. butyl catechol in toluene is added and the mixture is stirred for a further hour. On distilling off the toluene a macroporous polymer in the form of small spheres is produced. This polymer can be sulphonated for use as an ionexchange resin.
