A stretcher support of the type in which an upper stretcher carrier 1 mounted on tubular struts 5, 15, and 20 may be swung down in the direction of its length about pivots 6 to a low loading position, has the struts 5 and 15 provided with spigots 16 telescopically slidable therein so that the upper carrier may be adjusted in height, or one side of the upper carrier may be raised above the normal carrying position so that it may be swung down about pivots 13 to form a seat back rest. The carrier 1 is locked in the raised position by a hook 7 releasable by linkage 8 and a bolt 14, and is counterbalanced by springs (not shown) in tubes 9 connected by cables 10 running over pulleys 11 to a cross bar 12. Each of the spigots 16 is provided with a series of annular grooves, Fig. 3, any one of which may receive a locking screw 24, or a pin may be passed through a radial hole in the spigot. The upper end of each spigot is screwed into a lug 19 forming part of the carrier 1.
