<p>A latch mechanism comprising a bolt 6 sliding between extended and retracted positions by a pivotal handle 8 via a rack and pinion 14, 16. Preferably the rack of teeth is integral with the bolt and the pinion forms part of or is connected to the handle which may rotate 180 degrees. The bolt may be spring biased into the extended latched position and the housing may include a spring loaded ball catch 22 protruding from the housing to engage with a recess in the handle to retain the handle in a second position corresponding to the retracted position of the latch. The latch may be used on a door of a vehicle such as a livestock trailer.</p> |
